Cmash Core

Cmash Core (cmash) — Feature Overview

CMAsh Core is the foundation of the CMAsh Web-to-Publish platform. It provides the admin panel, user and access management, team workflow, multilingual support, revision history, backup & restore, system diagnostics, and central platform settings — the backbone every other CMAsh module builds on.

What Is Cmash Core?

cmash is the central package of the CMAsh ecosystem. It turns a Laravel application into a fully branded Cmash admin panel and delivers everything a production platform needs to run reliably: who can do what, who works on what, what changed, how data is protected, and how the system is configured. All other CMAsh modules — templates, brandkits, editor, renderers, datasources — plug into it and reuse its building blocks.

Branded Admin Panel

Users, Roles & API Access

  • User Management — create, edit, and remove users. Each user has a globally unique UUID for reliable references across integrations.
  • Role-Based Access Control — fine-grained permissions per resource and action, powered by Filament Shield with auto-generated policies — new modules are protected from day one.
  • Group Restrictions — limit individual users to selected groups (brands, clients, business units). Users without restrictions keep access to all groups.
  • Scoped API Tokens — issue named API tokens per user with specific abilities, optional expiry dates, and "last used" tracking for auditing.
  • Creator Tracking — forms, templates, and documents record who created them — including which API token was used when created programmatically.
  • Clear Row Actions — users who can edit see a single Edit action; read-only users get View instead.

Group Selector for Multi-Brand Organizations

  • One-Click Focus — an optional group selector in the top bar filters every admin list to a single group (plus ungrouped items).
  • Built for Scale — agencies and corporations manage many brands, subsidiaries, or clients in one installation without clutter.
  • Switch On When Needed — enable or disable the selector in General Settings.

Task Management & Status Workflow

  • Assign To — assign any form, template, or document to a team member. See at a glance who's responsible.
  • Configurable Statuses — define your own workflow statuses (Open → In Progress → Finished) with colors and icons that match your process. Drag to reorder and mark one as default for new items.
  • My Tasks Dashboard — every user gets a personal "My Tasks" page showing all items assigned to them — across forms, templates, and documents — with live status badges and quick links.

Multilingual by Design

  • Central Language List — define all content languages (e.g. en, de, fr, it) and a default language in General Settings.
  • Separate Backend Languages — restrict the admin UI language switcher to a subset, independent of content languages.
  • TranslatableTextInput — reusable form component for multi-language values. Shows the primary locale with a 🌐 expand button and a filled-count badge (e.g. "2/4") — missing translations are spotted instantly. Supports single-line and textarea mode and works with Spatie HasTranslations and plain JSON columns.
  • Consistent Everywhere — status names, collection titles, validation messages, and labels across all CMAsh modules share the same translation experience.

Protected System & Sample Entities

  • Clear Labels — platform-provided entities are marked System, reference examples are marked Sample.
  • Read-Only Protection — normal users see protected entities greyed out with a blue info banner. They can view and copy values but cannot modify or delete them.
  • Duplicate & Customize — one click creates an editable copy — the fastest way to start from best practice.
  • Visibility Toggle — a top-bar switch shows or hides System and Sample entities across all lists; the choice is remembered for the session.
  • Admin Override — administrators with the right permission retain full edit and delete access.

Used By Cross-References

  • Know Before You Change — edit pages for forms, templates, brandkits, workspaces, renderers, editor themes, datasources, data definitions, and layouts show a collapsible "Used By" section listing every dependent entity.
  • Tabbed & Counted — each dependency type gets its own tab with a badge count, visible even when the section is collapsed.
  • Details & Links — name, group, active state, and last update for every linked entity, with direct navigation.
  • Inline in Lists — expand dependencies directly below any row in overview tables.

Revision History — Track Changes, Rollback Anytime

Every change recorded. One click to restore.

All key entities — templates, forms, brandkits, documents, workspaces, renderers, datasources, editor themes, hooks, tags, and more — automatically track a full revision history. Every save creates a versioned snapshot, so you can see exactly who changed what and when. The revision view highlights only the fields that actually changed, with unchanged properties collapsed out of the way. Need to undo a mistake? Restore any previous version with a single click. Administrators can configure a maximum number of revisions per entity (or keep unlimited) and bulk-clean old revisions older than a configurable number of days — keeping the database lean without losing important history. Live statistics show the total revision count and the age of the oldest entry.

Backup & Restore — Built In, Not Bolted On

  • One-Click Database Backups — create a compressed SQL dump directly from the admin panel. Supports MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and SQLite; MySQL/MariaDB dumps are transaction-consistent and include routines and triggers.
  • Complete Media Backups — a single archive covers everything outside the database: shared assets, customer uploads, brand and brandkit logos, document images, fonts, and installed Typst packages.
  • Scheduled Backups — schedule database and media backups independently using standard cron expressions (e.g. nightly at 02:00). Jobs run in the background and never overlap.
  • Automatic Retention — define how many backups to keep; older ones are removed automatically.
  • Download & Restore — download any backup for off-site storage or restore it with one click. Media restores extract to a staging area first and then copy files into place.

System Information & Diagnostics

A single page gives administrators, IT, and support the full technical picture:

  • Environment Overview — PHP, Laravel, Filament, server software, Typst engine, and SurveyJS versions.
  • Module Versions — installed version of every CMAsh package, for fast and precise support requests.
  • Scheduler & Queue Health — queue driver, pending and failed jobs, system crontab status, and all registered scheduled tasks with their next run.
  • Print Readiness Check — counts of installed RGB and CMYK profiles, with a clear warning when no CMYK profile is present — so gaps are found before the print shop finds them.
  • Asset Handling Capabilities — which image tools (Typst, Imagick, GD) are available, what they are used for, and a format support matrix for PNG, JPEG, SVG, GIF, PDF, TIFF, BMP, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, and PSD.
  • PHP Extensions — full list of loaded extensions in a collapsible panel.

Reusable Building Blocks

The core package provides shared components so every CMAsh module looks and behaves the same:

  • ColorPickerField — a visual color picker synchronized with numeric channel inputs for CMYK, RGBA, HexA, HSLA, and Luma. Colors are stored as structured values, not approximations — so print-critical CMYK values stay exact. Used by brandkits and templates.
  • TranslatableTextInput — the shared multilingual field with locale expansion and filled-count badge.
  • Workflow & Governance Traits — assignment and status, creator tracking, System/Sample protection, "Used By" dependency views, revision limits, and consistent header actions — ready for any module to adopt.

Central Asset Processing Settings

General Settings control how images reach screen and print across the whole platform:

  • Default Web & Print Types — define the standard image preparation for editor previews and SVG/PNG output (Web) and for PDF output (Print). Without a Print default, PDFs use the Web default.
  • Strict or Lax Policies — decide what happens when a requested variant is missing: Strict allows previews with errors but blocks production fallback; Lax produces output with a warning.
  • Separate Policy for Customer Uploads — Lax by default, so a customer's photo without a CMYK variant is treated as a soft-proof matter, not a reason to refuse the order.
  • Variant Types for Customer Uploads — administrators choose which variant types are generated for uploads; customers never pick color targets themselves.
  • Custom Fallback Chain — define by drag & drop the exact order tried when a variant is unusable (specific type → default Web → default Print → original file). Leave out "Original" to guarantee unconverted files never reach production.
  • On-Demand Generation — build missing variants during a render (immediately, or queued with a one-time fallback), bounded by separate time budgets for final renders and editor previews so the editor stays responsive.
  • Retry Control — failed conversions are not retried on every render unless you enable it, so one broken asset never slows down every page.
  • License-Aware PDF Conversion — optional Ghostscript color conversion stays disabled until the server operator explicitly opts in, respecting AGPL obligations.
  • PDF Output Capabilities — see at a glance which final-PDF finishing features (e.g. combined batch PDFs) the server supports.

Fallback does not guarantee CMYK correctness or PDF/X compliance; final output must be validated for the required standards.

Editor & Designer Preferences

  • Typst Autocompletion — choose whether the Typst code editor suggests all built-in commands (#image, #text, #table, …) or only your custom fonts, colors, and variables.
  • Visual Designer (Early Access) — enable the upcoming visual template designer on template edit pages for teams that want to try it early.
